Firstly, what is VoIP Telephony?
VoIP is the acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol. This is a technological discovery that works by converting analog audio signal emanating from a source, into digital data, which is then transmitted over the Internet. It can be summarized by saying that VoIP uses your internet connection to convey audio communication, usually for a cost that is lower than traditional telephone systems. When the term ‘Mobile’ is combined with VoIP, it, therefore, refers to the deployment of Voice over Internet Protocol using smartphones devices, leveraging on the phone’s 3G, 4G, 4GLTE, or other internet service backbone. Traditional phone calls refer to conversations held over a telephone network between two parties. Traditional phones use analog systems to transmit and receive communication signals between themselves, using a physical connection which can be in form of twisted copper wires.
The fundamental use of the telephone is to solve the basic human need; communication. But because technology has evolved, making everything around us to become increasingly more mobile and portable, this has also played an important role in the way humans communicate with one another and stay connected irrespective of distance.
Use of Mobile VoIP in Business
Whether you are building your small business, or you are managing a global multinational, a seamless and secure connection with your existing customers, prospective customers, partners, employees and stakeholders are very key to the survival, growth and sustenance of your business. There are different Mobile VoIP solutions existing in the market, that offer reliable cloud-based business communications and collaboration solutions. These solutions provide high definition voice, video and audio conferencing, team messaging, 24/7 responsive contact center/customer care, seamless integration with critical business operations, and other business features and functionalities that you require within one integrated platform. The use of VoIP in business is a truly modern solution that is capable of working across multiple mobile devices and is also deployable anywhere your business may take you, provided that you have an internet connection. Your business also gets to enjoy world-class support from service providers, pushing you and your workforce to operate at your very best. The benefits that Mobile VoIP offer over traditional phone calls include:
- It does not require additional hardware. Unlike the traditional phone systems that require on-site equipment to power conventional phone services, using Mobile VoIP allows businesses to integrate cloud phone systems that eliminate the use of a cord. Businesses can proceed to immediately download the app of their preferred VoIP service provider and within 24 hours or less, the entire business is running VoIP phone services.
- Business operations flexibility and mobility. VoIP service allows employees to work from anywhere, not necessarily from the office, this is not available for traditional phone services. The recent evolution in the workplace and the constantly changing work environment is putting more pressures on businesses, giving rise to remote working. Cloud phone systems now allow businesses to eliminate the challenges caused by distances as employees and key business partners who have their mobile devices or computer connected to the internet can have unlimited access to their business numbers anytime they desire to make business calls, send messages and faxes. By downloading the app of their preferred VoIP service provider, logging in to the service provider’s portal, they can immediately commence their business activities from anywhere in the world.
- Reduction in infrastructural cost. The use of fewer hardware devices automatically reduces the financial burden on your business. This cost becomes a huge overhead cost when a business expands from a small startup into an international brand due to the associated increase in long distance and internal calls. Businesses can save more than 60% on their traditional phone calls by relying on mobile VoIP solutions. Also, calling toll-free phone numbers using a cloud phone system that runs on a mobile VoIP service reduces the per minute charges. The most important thing to know is that most VoIP service providers do not charge their customers to use their basic plans, your business can start using the basic plan for free, from anywhere in the world. It is important to mention some free apps that are currently available to download for free. These include Skype, Telegram, Viber, Fring, Snapchat, WhatsApp, ooVoo, and Facebook Messenger.
- Increased features and capability. This is the most visible advantage that the VoIP technology offers above the traditional phone services. Although you can enjoy basic features such as voicemail, call blocking, caller ID, call forwarding, and many more by using your tradition phone, VoIP creates more advanced options. With VoIP, businesses can enjoy advanced features like virtual assistants, pre-dialed contacts, call-to-email, and cloud-related services.
In summary, the long-term advantages that VoIP technology offers above traditional phone calls are enormous, therefore businesses looking at operating in today’s constantly changing world should integrate VoIP solutions without delay.
